Returnees working hard

Not to be overshadowed by the excitement created by the signings of recruits, the returnees for the Hawaii basketball team have been hard at work in recent weeks.

The Warriors have been going through individual workouts, which usually includes an intense session of basketball drills followed by a session in the weight room.

“We had two or three weeks off (after the season) and then it’s back to the gym,” said Zane Johnson, who will be a senior next season. “We’re on a mission this year to win. We want to win more than 20 games this year and bring some excitement back to the program.”

To maximize the workouts, the team is divided into small groups – guards in one session, followed by post players in another session.

“The season’s been long, but once you get the time off … then you get hungry for basketball,” said Davis Rozitis, who redshirted last season and will be a sophomore next season. “That’s what happened. I’m so hungry for basketball right now.”

  1. Dayton, Is Brumfield participating in the workouts ?

  2. Yeah, in all the videos haven’t seen Brumfield.

  3. jjay…you too have that keen eye.

  4. Dominick Brumfield has not been attending recent workouts, but I’m told he has an excused absence. Apparently his knee injury is still bothering him, so he is on a separate rehab program.

He is still in school and still considered a part of the team as of right now.

  5. i like wiseman working on his short jumper… looking nice

  6. jace tavita has a pretty horrible shot i hope he has the handles and playmaking abilites, wiseman looks like he’s working hard to improve his offensive game, miles shot still needs work but will probably stay a dribbler and playmaker, rozitis looked a little shaky i’d like them to showcase his shooting skills

  7. It’s been over a year for Brumfield and his knee situation, doesn’t look positive as far as him returning to the intensity and style of play prior to his injury, questionable as to him ever returning to form,Jace looks horrible as far as shoot form and accuracy looking at the videos, he needs lots of work during this off season if he wants to see the court next season. Jace, see coach Agena if you’re staying on the island after May , he’ll gladly help you get better during the off season.

  8. Guards: Zane is solid. Minns looks very smooth. Miles needs to continue working on his jumper, as well as his quickness. Jace Tavita’s shot looks UGLY. That was his biggest weakness at Utah. I can see what some of their fans were talking about.

Wings: Good to see Thomas and Wiseman working on their mid-range game. I hope both of their offensive skills continue to develop.

Post: Vander looks good posting up. Rozitis needs to get more lift on his shot (looks like it barely clears the rim before going in).

  9. forgot to mention good thing jace is not a scholarship player

  10. Will there be photos/videos of tonight’s banquet for those fans who can not go?

  11. Captured some video from the awards banquet, and hope to have something posted by tomorrow afternoon.

  12. Program moving in that positive direction with this off season stuff, good to see. Hey Dayton, will be traveling with the team during that summer tour in China and give us feedback? Sorry, if you were already asked…

    Go Warriors!!

  13. RoyGBivs,

I’d love to make that trip to China … you know anybody willing to take me along?

  14. There should be a get warriorinsider on the Asia trip fundraiser! It would be awesome to get videos of their trip at least.
