Warriors set to begin Japan trip
The University of Hawai’i basketball team will be in Japan for a goodwill tour from August 9-19. The trip will include four exhibition games, and stops in five different cities – Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nagoya and Chiba.

The four exhibition games are scheduled for August 11 (vs. Tokyo Samurai), August 14 (vs. FE Nagoya), August 16 (vs. Kyoto Hannaryz) and August 19 (vs. Tokai University).
Per NCAA rules, NCAA Division I programs are allowed to take an international trip every four years. The Rainbow Warriors had a successful tour of Australia in 2018.
Also per NCAA rules, teams that schedule an international trip are granted 10 extra practice sessions to prepare for the trip.

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team will soon be heading to Japan for a goodwill tour. The 11-day trip, running August 9-19, will include stops in Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Nagoya, and Chiba.
During that time Rainbow Warriors will play four exhibition games versus a mixture of amateur and professional teams. It marks UH’s first foreign tour since going to Australia in 2018
UH has been working hard on the court with 10 extra practices, per NCAA rules, to help prepare for the tour. The entire UH roster, including freshman Akira Jacobs will make the trip. Jacobs, who was reared in California, was born in Yokohama and for the last few years has been competing for the Japanese national team, most recently at the U19 World Cup in Hungary last month.
Outside of basketball, the team will immerse itself in the sightseeing and cultural activities. Among the things on tap are visits to the Imperial Palace, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and a Tokyo Giants baseball game.
