Update: Stevens will sign early

Touted California high school recruit Ronnie Stevens will sign with the Hawaii basketball team sooner rather than later.

Stevens, who is about to begin his senior season at Serra High School in Gardena, Calif., said he will sign a national letter of intent with Hawaii during the early signing period, which runs from Nov. 10-17.

“I talked it over with my parents and we made the decision to sign early,” said Stevens, who is a 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward. “I already made up my mind that it’s going to be Hawaii, so we thought we should sign now and not have to worry about it during the whole season.”

Stevens is the No. 13 ranked high school senior in California, according to the website www.calihighsports.com.

He made an oral commitment to play for Hawaii two weeks ago, and said at the time that he would wait until the regular signing period in April 2011 to sign with the Warriors. Stevens said he will likely sign the official letter of intent on Nov. 15, during a school assembly honoring student-athletes who will sign with NCAA Division I programs.

  1. now lets see if he can influence his buddy, damiene cain. cain mentioned in one report that he would announce his choice this friday. hopefully he will postpone his announcement and trip waikiki beach instead. we are in his top five so he owes it to himself to take his visit here first.
