HONOLULU — University of Hawai’i men’s basketball coach Eran Ganot announced the signing of the team’s second graduate transfer in as many weeks with the addition of Justin McKoy to the 2023-24 Rainbow Warriors roster. McKoy will have one year of eligibility with the Rainbow Warriors after previously playing at ACC schools Virginia and North Carolina.

The  6-8, 220-pound forward brings a winning pedigree to the UH frontcourt having competed for a pair of college basketball’s nationally-ranked powers. During his four-year collegiate career, he’s appeared in 74 career games and has played in a pair of NCAA Tournaments. McKoy made 30 appearances for the 2021-22 Tar Heel squad that advanced to the NCAA title game. He also started four games for Virginia during his sophomore campaign as the Cavaliers captured the 2020-21 ACC regular-season title.

“Justin is a fantastic addition to our program,” Ganot said. “His ability to shoot, create, and get to the rim gives our team a dynamic element. He’ll also bring a great veteran voice into our locker room with his vast experience and high character. Justin’s values fit perfectly with those of our program and state and we expect him to be an instant fan favorite.”

McKoy, who earned his undergraduate degree in human organizational leadership and development, has also been an outstanding student, making  the ACC Academic Honor Roll a total of three times.

Prior to his collegiate career, McKoy enjoyed a record-breaking high school career at Panther Creek High School in Cary, N.C. A four-time all-conference and all-district player, he was named the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association’s District 5 Player of the Year and was an all-state selection as a senior. A high school teammate of former Rainbow Warrior Juan Munoz, he left Panther Creek as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,054 points.

McKoy is the second graduate transfer to sign with UH this spring, joining former Yale guard Matthue Cotton.
