Coach Fisher wins a new car in China

As the director of basketball operations for the Hawaii basketball team, Scott Fisher has to handle numerous duties.

Ability to shoot free throws is apparently one of them.

Fisher won a free-throw shooting contest in front of thousands of fans at the Stankovic Cup in Guangzhou, China, on Sunday, Aug. 7.

“I feel elated,” Fisher said. “It’s a good feeling. It’s been a good feeling since I competed for anything, and it’s good to get a win.”

The contest was held at halftime of a game between Angola and Russia. The Warriors were there to watch teammate Vander Joaquim play for the Angola national team.

The announcer, who also acknowledged the rest of the Hawaii team to the crowd, called Fisher to the court. Fisher said he was previously the coach of an Australian team that played in China, and that same announcer recognized him.

Fisher beat out two other participants from the crowd, and was awarded a toy car.

“I’m glad that my best was good enough today,” he said. “I was a little tight out there – it’s been a long time – but we got it done.”
