UPDATED: Webster earns Warriors’ first Player of the Week award for this season

Justin Webster’s pinpoint shooting last week in the University of Hawai’i’s two victories over Cal Poly earned him the Big West Conference Player of the Week award. He is the first Rainbow Warrior to receive the award this season.

Webster, a 6-foot-3 sophomore guard, averaged 19.0 points and was in near-perfect shooting form while leading the Warriors to consecutive double-digit wins over the Mustangs. He shot 13 for 15 (86.7 percent) overall from the field, 8 for 9 (88.9 percent) from 3-point range, and 4 for 4 (100 percent) on free throws. He also grabbed nine rebounds and had two assists in the two games.

Webster now leads the Warriors in scoring (13.8 per game) and 3-pointers made (25). He ranks second on the team and fifth in the Big West for 3-point percentage at .446. Teammate Casdon Jardine leads the conference in that category at .556 (20 for 36).

Last season, senior guard Eddie Stansberry received the Conference Player of the Week award three times for Hawai’i.

After last week’s sweep of Cal Poly, Hawai’i is now 7-5 overall and 5-5 in the Big West. The Warriors are currently tied for fifth place with eight more regular-season games on the schedule.

Hawai’i will host UC Santa Barbara this Friday (February 12) and Saturday (February 13) at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. The Gauchos are tied for first place in the conference at 6-2, and will bring an eight-game winning streak to Honolulu.
