Stansberry named Big West Player of the Week for second time this season

University of Hawai’i senior guard Eddie Stansberry has shot his way into another basketball award from the Big West Conference.

Stansberry, a 6-foot-3 senior, was named the Big West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday. He was honored less than 24 hours after scoring a game-high 23 points in the Rainbow Warriors’ 94-73 rout of Samford on Sunday. He also recorded five rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Stansberry made five 3-pointers in the win, and set a new UH game record with 16 3-point attempts. He is averaging 19.7 points per game this season, and has scored 20 or more in seven of the team’s 10 games. He also leads the Big West and ranks four th in NCAA Division I with 3.8 3-pointers per game.

It is the second time this season that Stansberry received the Big West Player of the Week award. The last UH player to earn the conference player of the week award more than once in the same season was Noah Allen during the 2016-17 campaign.
