Melbourne edges Warriors, 86-85

Brocke Stepteau scored 26 points, but it was not quite enough to lift the University of Hawai’i basketball team to an exhibition victory in Australia.

The Melbourne Tigers rallied in the closing minutes and scored the go-ahead basket with less than 20 seconds remaining in an 86-85 over the Rainbow Warriors at the Veneto Athletic Club in Melbourne, Australia.

Stepteau hit three 3-pointers and scored 13 points in the first half, and Hawai’i jumped to a 39-38 lead at intermission.

Mate Colina, who is from Melbourne, added 16 points, and fellow Australian Owen Hulland scored 12 for the Warriors.

  1. Eagle and warrior insider , thanks for the coverage.

  2. IM slightly better intel:

    Justin Hemsley: Just started practicing (one practice before trip); maybe NOT Fair to throw him in yet);

    Zigmars Raimo: Tweaked above knee — maybe Two weeks (wants to play through);

    Leland Green: still re-habbing (shoulder ?) working / going well; not yet shooting; maybe a month away;

    G’Day !

  3. Mahalo, Eagle. Was wondering about those guys, particularly Raimo since he was coming off a strong showing in the summer league.

  4. ‘BEST’’ Opportunity tomorrow for That Elusive First WIN…

    [REALLY…The Best Opportunity was up nine with four minutes to go (Last Night) —But ‘One Snap and Clear…’
    B.Thomas: ‘We spent TWO HOURS Today pouring over last night’s videos to correct those shortcomings…

    Jeremy Kendle (#4 in videos) who scored 27 Including The Game Winner Last Night was (reportedly) previously MVP of SEABL Pro League…[NO Eligibility remaining]

    “Not-Yet-Confirmed” rumours that UH is recruiting up to three players from tomorrow’s opponent, Centre of Excellence Team…In Case it’s Not Obvious, Maté Colina (16 points) and Owen Hulland (12, both from COE) are legit players…two of top three scorers for UH in last night’s game…

    Mate’s Dad hosted the Team and Boosters to a great Croatian Restaurant meal tonight…
    Just for Comparison… Coach Ganot said that for Most Teams’ international trips, the team pulls 5 or 6 boosters (mostly family); The Aussie Tour Organizers also hosted Nationally Ranked St. Mary’s The week (up to the day) before UH,…SMC had three ‘boosters’, really players’ family; Gib’s China-Japan Trip drew 11…Ganot’s Aussie trip has drawn 33 (!) Which coach says just blows him away— “The Support is incredible “…boosters contribute money, services, team meals…

    By Their Reactions, Jack & Maté’s Families lead me to believe they are also blown away by The Depth and Strength you (I) can feel described by those ‘overused’, undervalued (?) terms ‘Ohana and ALOHA… i’m (just opinion, No Basis) thinking our Aussie players’ experiences ‘could’ lead to UH getting two of those three recruits…success…
