Hawai’i named to 2018 Wooden Legacy tournament field

The 2018-19 schedule for the University of Hawai’i basketball team got a serious upgrade on Thanksgiving Day. Hawai’i was announced as one of the eight teams invited to participate in the 2018 Wooden Legacy tournament in Southern California.

The 2018 Wooden Legacy is scheduled for November 22, 23 and 25, and Hawai’i will play three games in four days.

The other teams in the 2018 field are Fresno State, LaSalle, Miami (Fla.), Northwestern, Seton Hall and Utah. One more team will be added to complete the eight-team field.

The 2017 Wooden Legacy is being played this weekend at Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. The site for the 2018 tournament has yet to be announced. Cal State Fullerton is participating in the 2017 Wooden Legacy, but will not be in the 2018 field. The 2014, 2015, and 2016 Wooden Legacy tournaments were played at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

The announcement means that Hawai’i will be playing in two ESPN-related tournaments for the 2018-19 season. In addition to the Wooden Legacy, UH will also be the host school for the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.
