The University of Hawai’i basketball team was well-represented at the Portsmouth Pre-Draft Showcase last week. As a result, there could be some representation in the European professional leagues next season.

“It was like a three-day tournament, where different guys show off their skills to scouts and general managers of teams, potentially trying to get a job next year,” explained former UH center Davis Rozitis.

Rozitis and Brandon Spearman both participated in the Showcase at Portsmouth, Virginia. They were teammates on the “Miami Heat” squad that went 3-0 and won the championship of the tournament.

Spearman averaged 17.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game; Rozitis averaged 12.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. In the championship victory, Spearman contributed 22 points and five rebounds, and Rozitis had 16 points and 12 boards.

The players in the Showcase were from mid-major NCAA Division I teams, NCAA-II, NCAA-III and NAIA teams.

“It was a good experience for us,” Rozitis said. “It’s always hard in these kind of tournaments because you just meet up the guys on the same day and you have to put some kind of team together. It was a bit of a challenge for us, but we both took on the leadership role and led the team to victory.”

Rozitis and Spearman both returned to UH this week, and are finishing up their respective classes for this semester.
