Christian2Beach_CS

Christian Standhardinger and the Hawai’i basketball team remained on a roll last week, and the 6-foot-8 junior from Germany was once again recognized with the Big West Conference Player of the Week award.

Standhardinger averaged 20.0 points on 67 percent shooting and 11.0 rebounds to lead the Warriors to home victories over Long Beach State and UC Irvine last week. The wins were the fourth and fifth in a row for Hawai’i, and the Warriors moved up to second place in the conference at 9-4.

He tallied 20 points and 13 rebounds in the victory over first-place Long Beach State, then contributed 20 points and nine boards in the win over UC Irvine. Standhardinger is averaging 22.4 points and 11.2 rebounds per game during the Warriors’ five-game winning streak.

He was also named the Big West Player of the Week last week, and is now the only player in the conference to win the award in back-to-back weeks this season.

For the season, Standhardinger is averaging 16.3 points with a .518 field goal percentage and 8.1 rebounds per game. He also leads the team in steals (33) and minutes played (29.4 per game).

The Warriors will depart Honolulu for two Big West road games this week – at UC Davis on Thursday, then at Pacific on Saturday.

  3. Kudos and congrats to Christian, what an honor, getting it done in classroom and on the court, Now, Christian and entire team, go get 2 wins on the road!

Imagine, Christian, Spearman, Jefferson, Davis as senior leaders next year, along with super sophs, Isaac and Jawato, along with Roop, Michael, Ozi, and incoming freshman, MIchael Thomas, RS Aaron Valdes, RS Caleb Dressler, RS Dyrbe Enos, freshman Stefan J., and RS Jr. transfer Keith S.. things look good for next year too!!

  4. Wow! Back to back honors. That is just great. Well deserved for a hard playing guy.

  5. Standhardinger is playing like a maniac, like there’s no tomorrow. Well deserved. If Arnold has one more scholorship open he should look for a shooting guard or a small forward with range.

Time for Arnold to consider playing a box and 1 against Corey Hawkins. Otherwise, gotta go man to man with trying Spearman, Jefferson, and Tavita all trying to defending Hawkins. Gotta change it up to give different looks. UC Davis cannot beat UH making 2 pt baskets. Thus, defending the 3 pt. line is the key.
