Leaving Las Vegas

It was a short stay in Las Vegas for the Hawaii basketball team.

Two days after checking-in to the Orleans Hotel and Casino, the Warriors were checking out.

After a heartbreaking 75-74 loss to San Jose State in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday, the Warriors were able to get a flight out of Vegas on Thursday morning.

As such, it will give the team more time to rest and prepare for its next game. Hawaii will host Portland on Tuesday at the Stan Sheriff Center in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.

Hawaii, which has an 18-12 record, is playng in a post-season tournament for the first time since 2004, although this is the Warriors’ first appearance in the CIT.

Portland is 20-11, and will be making its third consecutive appearance in the CIT. Like Hawaii, Portland was a No. 5 seed for its conference tournament, but got upset in the first round. The Pilots lost to Loyola Marymount in the West Coast Conference Tournament.

And here is another episode of “Bill and Zane’s Excellent Adventure,” featuring the team’s check-in at the Orleans Hotel (the day before the San Jose State game), followed by a bowling session.

  1. NOW we know what the problem was – YOU CANʻT GO BOWLING THE DAY BEFORE A BASKETBALL GAME. Terrible idea. I know firsthand. Gives you a dead arm.

Donʻt know if everyone bowled, but for future reference, itʻs a bad idea. Half-kidding; just trying to make up a good excuse for why we choked it off against an inferior team.

See you Tuesday. Pilots are tough.

  2. Got to practice the free throws

  3. couch coach…you may be on to something. bowling tends to elongate the arm muscles. the fast twitch muscles then lose memory. no wonder we were so off from the charity line.

  4. Forget Vegas. Forget San Jose. Now take care of Portland! Let’s make Riley’s choice a good one. Go Warriors!
