Filling out brackets

The main focus of the Hawaii basketball team is on the final four of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. But that doesn’t mean the Warriors can’t be like the rest of America and have their fun trying to predict the Final Four for the NCAA Tournament.

The Warriors recently got together and filled out NCAA brackets — all for fun, of course, in accordance with NCAA rules.

Most of the Warriors were going with “safe” picks to win the national championship, such as Duke, Ohio State and Kansas. But many of them also were picking first-round upsets, with Utah State the most popular choice. The Aggies, who won the Western Athletic Conference championship, received a No. 12 seed despite a 30-3 record. They will play 5-seed Kansas State in the first round.

Although the first-round games of the NCAA Tournament will be played Thursday and Friday, the Warriors will not have much time to follow the results. They will be busy preparing for their second-round game in the CIT.

Hawaii will host San Francisco on Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in the second round of the CIT. The Warriors are 19-12; the Dons are 18-14, including an 81-73 victory over WAC member Idaho in the first round of the CIT. Hawaii lost to Idaho twice during the WAC season.

Here are some of the Warriors’ picks for the NCAA Tournament:

  1. So much for the Utah State upset special. Aggies lost in first round to Kansas State.

I still say WAC champs got a poor seed, though. They had a 30-3 record, ranked No. 19 in final regular-season AP poll, and still got a No. 12 seed. No respect.

  2. What! No. 12 seed?!? That’s really no respect. No matter what sport……..The WAC has no respect. I guess it is a good thing we’re leaving this conference.

  3. The CIT is nice and all, but hopefully it’s only a matter of time when the brackets will include the ‘Bows..
