‘Excellent Adventure’ returns

After taking care of some technical difficulties, “Bill and Zane’s Excellent Adventure” is back.

Senior forward Bill Amis, junior guard Zane Johnson, and video coordinator John Spruance have been documenting the Hawaii basketball team’s current road trip for WarriorInsider.com, and the latest video clips are in.

In their last episode, the Warriors were having a team dinner at San Jose, Calif.

This latest episode features the team’s shoot-around at The Event Center, around six hours before the game against San Jose State (which Hawaii would go on to win, 77-71). And yes, assistant coach Brandyn Akana’s father, Nick, really was a collegiate boxing champion at San Jose State.

The Warriors actually arrived safely in Las Vegas on Sunday to begin preparation for the WAC Tournament. Interestingly enough, Hawaii will play San Jose State again in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday (10 a.m. Hawaii time).

The traveling correspondents have been capturing daily video, so there is some catching up to do. Check back with WarriorInsider.com often over the next few days to see the latest episodes.

  1. Congratulations also to Zane Johnson, who was named the Verizon WAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday.

The 6-foot-6 junior guard scored 47 points in two road games last week. He scored 26 in a victory at San Jose State, then had 21 in a loss at Fresno State.

For the week, Johnson averaged 23.5 points, 3.0 assists and 1.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 10-for-19 from 3-point range.

It is the first WAC Player of the Week honor for Johnson. It is the second time this season that a Hawaii player has won the award. Senior point guard Hiram Thompson won it in November.

  2. “Way to go on the videos. Good job, good fun. Go Warriors!
