“Call the Coach” radio show

Hawaii head coach Gib Arnold made some interesting announcements on his “Call The Coach” radio show on Tuesday night.

In what has become a relentless effort to get a capacity crowd for Saturday’s game against Utah State, Arnold said on the show that he would coach the first half of the game in rubber slippers if UH students fill the lower and upper sections behind the baskets.

And if the game is an official sellout before tipoff, Arnold said he’d wear his boardshorts while coaching.

The Warriors will host first-place Utah State in a Western Athletic Conference game on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The UH athletic department is promoting it as “All In Against The Aggies,” and UH-Manoa students are being allowed in for free.

Arnold also said that he is working on a summer trip to China for the team that could include exhibition games against the Chinese national team. He said logistics are still being worked out, but he is hopeful that the trip could be scheduled in August.

The “Call the Coach” radio show is held on Tuesdays at 6 p.m., when the team is in Honolulu. It is recorded live at the Kani Ka Pila Grille in the Outrigger Reef on the Beach Hotel in Waikiki, and fans who show up can win prizes.

  2. Interesting stuff.. I doubt we’ll get anywhere near a sellout, but gotta give the Gib credit for trying..

  3. I like Coach Arnold’s drive to promote interest and excitement to the program. Go Coach! Go Warriors!
