Brumfield on the way to recovery

Dominick Brumfield was the only player on the Hawaii basketball roster unable to participate in the ‘Ohana Hoopfest on Oct. 15.

The 6-foot-8 forward is still recovering from a fractured kneecap, but said he should be able to return to practices with the rest of his teammates soon.

“My knee’s feeling great,” he said. “I think probably in a couple of weeks I’ll be back to full contact everything.”

Although Brumfield has not been cleared to participate in basketball practices, he did perform the Tahitian haka with his teammates at the ‘Ohana Hoopfest.

“That was a lot of fun,” he said. “I liked that whole atmosphere with the fans and everything.”

Brumfield is a transfer from Big Bend College (Wash.), and is in his first season at Hawaii.

  1. Where does he fit in the mix? Thomasʻs backup, or is he more of a 4? Possibly a year away and take Amisʻs spot?

  2. Probably backup for Thomas and Amis. Don’t know how good he is though. Anyone seen him?

  3. Hard to say where Dominick will fit in right now because he hasn’t had any “live” action for the past two months. He appears to be long and athletic enough to battle for immediate playing time, but he’s got a lot of catching up to do right now, both physically and in terms of learning the schemes.
