Warriors draw Vanderbilt in Diamond Head opener

The University of Hawai’i basketball team will face Vanderbilt on the opening day of the 2021 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.

The complete bracket for the eight-team tournament was announced on Thursday. The Rainbow Warriors will face the Commodores of the Southeastern Conference on December 22. It will be the fourth game of the day, and scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The game will be televised nationally on either ESPNU or ESPN2.

Here are the first-day pairings:

Liberty vs. Iowa, 10:00 a.m.
Wyoming vs. Stanford, 12:00 p.m.
BYU vs. South Florida, 4:30 p.m.
Hawai’i vs. Vanderbilt, 7:00 p.m.

The winner of the Hawai’i-Vanderbilt game will play the winner of the BYU-South Florida game on December 23.

The consolation and semifinal games will be held on December 23, with the final day set for December 25. All games of the tournament will be televised on either ESPNU or ESPN2.

The Diamond Head Classic is returning to the Stan Sheriff Center after a one-year hiatus. The tournament was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

December 23
Semifinal Game 1, 11:00 a.m.
Consolation Game 1, 1:30 p.m.
Semifinal Game 2 OR Consolation Game 2, 5:00 p.m.
Semifinal Game 2 OR Consolation Game 2, 7:00 p.m.

December 25
7th Place or 5th Place Game, 8:30 a.m.
7th Place or 5th Place Game, 10:30 a.m.
3rd Place Game, 1:30 p.m.
Championship Game, 3:30 p.m.
