Georgia Tech rallies past Warriors, 70-53, for third place

Michael Devoe scored 18 points and Moses Wright added 16 points this afternoon to help Georgia Tech rally past Hawai’i, 70-53, for third place in the 11th Annual; Diamond Head Classic.

A sparse Christmas Day crowd of about 2,900 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched James Banks add 11 points as the Yellow Jackets improved to 6-6 on the season. Zigmars Raimo and Drew Buggs each scored nine points to lead the Warriors, who fell to 8-5.

UH led 32-29 at halftime and 38-29 after Samuta Avea’s two free throws with 16:11 remaining in the game, but Banks sank a free throw 20 seconds later to start Georga Tech on a 16-4 run capped by Jordan Usher’s reverse layup to put the Yellow Jackets up, 45-42, with 11:14 left. The Warriors took their last lead back at 48-47 on a free throw by Raimo with 8:34 remaining, but Wright answered with a layup to ignite a stunning 21-2 run culminating in two free throws by Banks to make it 68-50 with 1:17 left.
