Hawai’i picked sixth in Big West Preseason Poll

The University of Hawai’i basketball team is picked to finish sixth (out of nine teams) in the 2018-19 Big West Conference Preseason Poll.

Results of the 24-member media poll were announced on Thursday.

UC Irvine received 10 of the 24 first-place votes and is picked to finish first. The Anteaters return all five starters from last season.

Cal State Fullerton, which won last season’s Big West Conference Tournament and represented the conference in the NCAA Tournament, received four first-place votes and is picked second.

UC Davis, which was the regular-season champion last season, received six first-place votes and is picked third.

Here are the poll results:

1. UC Irvine (10 first-place votes) 192 points
2. Cal State Fullerton (4) 183
3. UC Davis (6) 180
4. UC Santa Barbara (4) 149
5. Long Beach State 116
6. Hawai’i 110
7. UC Riverside 61
8. Cal Poly 47
9. CSUN 42

There were also six players selected to the Preseason All-Conference Team:

  2. If the team finished 6th place last year then 6th place for this year is a fair prediction. They just have to go out and prove everybody wrong!

  3. Only one “big” man on the All-Conference team.

  4. Looks like their votes were neck and neck w/Long Beach State, which is fair imho. Now the boys will be playing w/a chip on their shoulder and something to prove! I’m confident they can rebound and really make a statement this season. Let’s GO BOWS!!
