Media Day photos and other notes

The University of Hawai’i basketball team held its annual “Media Day” on Tuesday afternoon at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Warriors, who have 10 newcomers on the 15-player roster, posed for team and individual photos, and answered questions from various local media outlets.

WarriorInsider.com photographer Brandon Flores captured shots of each player (see his gallery at the bottom of this page).

Here are some other notes and newsworthy items …

JANKOVIC WAIVED BY HEAT

Former University of Hawai’I star Stefan Jankovic was waived by the Miami Heat on Monday, but he is still expected to be assigned to the Heat’s NBA D-League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce, for the start of this season.

Jankovic, a 6-foot-11 forward, was slowed by an ankle injury during the Heat’s training camp, and appeared in only one preseason game (and played limited minutes in that one appearance). He was one of 20 players on the training camp roster, but the regular-season roster has to be trimmed to 15 players by October 24.

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra said: “It was unfortunate that he sprained his ankle, he wasn’t able to participate too much in training camp,” Spoelstra said of Jankovic. “But we are encouraged by the development he made before that. Now will come the next decision and that’s really in his hands. But we would like to continue the relationship with him.”

The Heat can retain its affiliate rights with Jankovic for this season, and thus assign him to Sioux Falls, as long as another team does not pick him up as a free agent.

  1. Curiosity of the day: Name “THE TEAM THAT IS TALLER THAN THIS IN TOTAL HEIGHT”?

  2. Hope Jankovic is open to playing in Europe for dough. If he decides to stay in the D League, he should not linger there for more than 2 years; the pay is substandard.
