Intrasquad scrimmage and alumni game on October 22

img_0245

The general public can get its first look at the 2016-17 University of Hawai’i basketball team on October 22, when the annual Green & White intrasquad scrimmage takes place at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The scrimmage is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m., and admission is free. The team will be going through practice drills prior to the scrimmage. Arena doors will open at noon, and fans are invited to watch the practice session.

With 10 newcomers to the roster, the Warriors are in the process of determining roles for the upcoming season.

The scrimmage will follow a “controlled” format, meaning the squads will be interchangeable and the time periods could vary.

An alumni game is scheduled to be played after the intrasquad scrimmage, and fans are invited to stay. Participants for the alumni game have not yet been announced.

The regular-season opener is set for Nov. 11 against SIU-Edwardsville. No other preseason or exhibition games have been officially announced, so the October 22 scrimmage could be the only chance for fans to see the Warriors in action prior to this season.

The Warriors are coming off a program-best 28-6 season in which they won the Big West Conference and advanced to the program’s fifth-ever NCAA Tournament.

“Mini-pack” ticket packages now available

Here’s a chance for UH basketball fans to “pick six” for the upcoming season. Pick any six home games for the 2016-17 season, and the total cost for adult tickets to those six games can be as low as $90 (starting at $78 for Senior Citizens, and $30 for students).

It is a convenient option for fans who might not be able to attend all the home games during the season.

Note that these “Mini-packs” are available for upper level seats only. Also, the Diamond Head Classic games can not be selected as part of the mini-packs, and the North Carolina game on November has a higher price.

UH SG Brian Garrett’s jumper is … unorthodox, to say the least. I’ll say this: The ball goes in pretty often.
