Jankovic expected to join Miami Heat summer team

Stefan Jankovic’s prospective path to the NBA will likely begin in Miami.

After not getting selected in the 2016 NBA Draft on Thursday, Jankovic said he is ready to accept an invitation to join the Miami Heat’s Summer League team.

Jankovic, the 2016 Big West Player of the Year, said he will likely have to report to Miami by next week. The Heat will have Summer League teams competing in Orlando (July 2-8) and Las Vegas (July 8-18).

Free agent prospects, such as Jankovic, get to play alongside drafted rookies and other young NBA players in the Summer League.

The 2016 version of the NBA Draft featured 60 selections through two rounds on Thursday, but for the 27th consecutive year, no UH players were selected.

Jankovic was listed on several “Top 100” draft prospect lists, and his stock was on the rise after working out for numerous NBA teams in the weeks leading up to the draft.

Other former UH players from last season’s historic NCAA Tournament team who are seeking professional basketball careers are Roderick Bobbitt, Aaron Valdes and Quincy Smith.

The last UH player selected in the NBA Draft was Reggie Cross by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round in 1989.

    No holding back now!

  4. Isn’t Miami the team that Anthony Carter signed with? And just like Janks, AC went undrafted; but he lasted 13 seasons in the NBA, all due to his relentless hustle and all-in team approach. And a mention to Janks: a yes sir and no sir goes a long way to coaches remembering you when it comes to cutting time.

  5. Miami had 17 to 19 players listed on its 2015 summer league roster. Some players listed on rosters don’t get into any games. Players get 10 fouls before they foul out, looks like.

An insider said Raimo and Sheriff are playing or competing for their U20 National teams. Fleming was 20 when he began his career at UH.
