Negus Webster-Chan scored 20 points, including six 3-pointers, and three teammates scored in double-figures to lead the University of Hawai’i basketball team to a 78-59 victory over Long Beach State.

A “Harry Potter Night” crowd of 6,448 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched the Warriors end a two-game losing streak and avenge a loss at Long Beach State last month to improve to 19-11 overall and 7-7 in the Big West Conference. The 49ers dropped to 13-16 and 7-6 with their fifth consecutive loss.

Roderick Bobbitt added 15 points, five assists and three steals, Garrett Nevels contributed 14 points and nine rebounds, and Stefan Jankovic had 12 points, six rebounds and five blocked shots for the Warriors.

Hawai’i shot 50.9 percent from the field, while holding Long Beach State to 30.6 percent.

Webster-Chan went 5-for-8 from 3-point range and scored 15 in the first half to lead the Warriors to a 39-29 advantage at intermission.

The Warriors shot 46.2 percent (12 for 26) from the field in the first half, while limiting the 49ers to 27.6 percent (8 for 29).

Hawai’i missed its first seven shots of the second half, allowing the 49ers to get as close as four, 40-36. Webster-Chan then hit his sixth 3-pointer of the game to put the Warriors up 43-36 with 13:50 remaining.

The 49ers cut the Hawai’i lead to three, 45-42, on a 3-pointer by Branford Jones with 12:05 remaining, but that was as close as it would get. The Warriors responded with an 11-0 run – highlighted by an alley-oop dunk by Nevels off a lob pass from Bobbitt – to increase the lead to 56-42.

Long Beach State never got closer than seven points in the final seven minutes, and the Warriors turned it into a rout in the final three minutes.

The Warriors will remain at home, but do not have a game this weekend. The next game will be the home finale on March 4 (a Wednesday) against UC Santa Barbara.

More details, including video highlights and interviews, will be posted later.

  1. Awesome game.

  2. Good job ! 5 blocks by Janks, 2 by Nevels.

Honor Garrett and Jawato on senior night. Brandon retiring. Benjy going on recruiting trip.

  3. BENJY CAN “PROMISE” Recruits He’ll Be Here…
    WIN ONE (Or More)
    Without Flat-Out “Violations”, etc…
We Don’t Have ANY UH Administrators who can knock off a 20-WIN BB Coach…
    20-WIN NATIONAL Coach-of-the-Year…

SO i’ll Predicy (Guess) that Senque And Benjy CAN Recruit ‘SOME” players
    Maybe Some Real Good Ones…

SOME WILL Be Suspicious of A “Program” that DOES NOT SIGN its Coach
AND FIRES The Previous 20-WIN Coach [ZERO-Loyalty] For ANY Reason…

    19-11 Great Season SO Far…
Two Decent Chances for 20, …
UCSB: Even With Williams Back… How Effective Can he be ‘This Soon’?
Fullerton, Here or There — UH “Should” Be Better…

Garrett Nevels IS Feelin’ It…And FLYIN’!
Aaron WILL Work to Get His Legs Back…
THAT IS (also) WHY NEED Isaac and Mike Thomas Playing (When Healthy)
So They CAN Contribute At a Tourney-WINNING Level… Not Just Fouls and Minutes…

Maybe A Little Too Late In The Season to be All-Conference…
BUT Negus-Janks-Garrett- Bobbitt ARE Among The Best At Their Positions…
AND Quincy-Jovanovic are playing Really Well
IF Isaac-MThomas-AValdes CAN Return To Form BY Tourney-Time…
    WATCH OUT!

    GO ‘BOWS!
    GET STRONGER
    To FINISH STRONGEST!

    20!
    Much More!

    [SAD…So What?]
    SMALL CROWD… BUT ACTIVE & LOUD….
    Having A GREAT Time!
    Three Straight Home 20-Point Leads…

  4. 19 wins and counting!!
    Good job
once all team step up dfensively
    offense comes around
    shutdown caffey and samuels incredible!!

    G Money!!

Benjy and the Bows good win
janks and nwc go off for TJ !!

    🙂

  5. Now 1 through 11, UH MBB all hands on deck and healthy ready to go, even without Isaac Fleming into next 3 games.. I feel at every position, PG, SG, SF, PF and Center,.. UH just might have the best talent, at least the team defense, and shutdown defenders of other team’s top scorers, And Janks, NWC, Nevels, just at the right time their Offense and Defense coming around, Bobbitt, getting needed breather from Niko big time, Dyrbe can hit that corner pocket 3 ball, for a win.. Quincy, the energizer guy, AV still have to be healthy and in rhythm

What makes this group so awesome.. to win 19 games so far, and really could have had maybe 23 overall wins , if won the games they had leads at SCC and on the road.. Everytime, nearly a different guy or guys step up, With NWC hurt, AV, MT, IF, Quincy’s back, Rod’s recovering broken arm, Janks tendinitis knees, a real MASH unit, or Emergency Urgent care room full of talent.

Yes, Team can play 40 minutes of great D and offense, Now, they CAN be the team to Beat in BWC.. so exciting. however.. eagle, you are right, that is the Milestone, the Touchstone, the Marker for any level NCAA Division MBB teams, the 20 win mark.. Yes, UH has UCSB at SSC, Fullerton at Fullerton, and of course opening round game of BWC tournament,.. Yes, 3 games over next few weeks to get to that 20 win mark… either way…Great season.. the way it started.

Wonder if They going to have April MBB Banquet.. Wow, eagle, what would chancellor, AD, pres., and boosters, and Acting HC have to say? Pretty neat speeches, Victors already in my mind.. overcame Horrible odds.. and they kept on wining.. matched, Gib’s first year team with Hiram, Amis, Zane, Vander, Joston and Miah..
