Warriors among seven teams still in contention in Big West

The race for the Big West Conference regular-season championship got a lot more interesting after Wednesday’s results.

Most notable, UC Irvine defeated UC Santa Barbara, 70-59, to create a tie for first place. Both UCI and UCSB are 11-3 with six games remaining.

The race is far from decided, as the top seven teams in the standings are separated by just three games.

UC Riverside is in third place at 10-5, and Hawai’i is in fourth at 9-5. Cal State Fullerton and Long Beach State are tied for fifth at 9-6, and UC Davis is in seventh place at 8-6.

The Rainbow Warriors still have games remaining against the three teams ahead of them. Hawai’i will host UC Riverside on Feb. 23, then UC Irvine on Feb. 25. The Warriors will close the regular season with a road game at UC Santa Barbara.

Before those games, Hawai’i will have to take care of business during the upcoming Presidents’ Day weekend. The Warriors have road games at Long Beach State on Feb. 18, then at CSU Bakersfield on Feb. 20.
