It’s now official, the University of Hawai’i basketball team will not be hosting Cal Poly for Big West Conference games on December 27 and 28. Both games are canceled as the result of a recent positive COVID-19 test within the Cal Poly program.

The official announcements were made by both schools.

Per Big West guidelines announced prior to this season, the games will not be rescheduled.

Hawai’i’s next games are scheduled for January 8 and 9, on the road at UC Riverside. UCR is currently in a “pause” of its own due to COVID issues. The Highlanders’ games for December 27 and 28 (vs. Long Beach State) and January 1 and 2 (at UC Davis) are already canceled.

Thus, Hawai’i at UC Riverside on January 8 will be the first conference game for both teams … should it remain on, as scheduled.

The same can be said for Cal Poly. The Mustangs have announced that their games this week (at Hawai’i) and next week (vs. UC San Diego) are canceled due to the recent COVID issue. Cal Poly’s first conference games will be January 8 and 9 at Cal State Bakersfield.

The Warriors are 2-0, and were limited to just two non-conference games against NCAA Division II opponents Hawai’i Pacific and Hawai’i-Hilo due to travel-related restrictions in November and December.

It is also worth noting that four of the five scheduled Big West series for December 27 and 28 are canceled due to COVID issues.

The UH women’s team also had its Big West opener at Cal Poly canceled due to a separate COVID exposure issue within the Cal Poly women’s team.

  1. Why not schedule a game with Chaminade this week? We did with Hilo and HPU already, why not all the island teams?
