Fundraising information for former Warrior Akpan

Former University of Hawai’i two-sport athlete Tony Akpan is in need of some help.

Akpan, a member of the 2001-02 Rainbow Warrior basketball team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, lost his entire home in Oregon during the wildfires that are destroying the region.

Akpan, his wife and their five children, his mother and a sister were able to evacuate unharmed. However, nearly all of the family’s belongings were lost in the fire.

A family friend has set up a GoFundMe page for the family. CLICK HERE to view the page and make a contribution.

Akpan is originally from Nigeria, and was recruited to Hawai’i in 2001 from a high school in Alabama. He was a freshman for the 2001-02 team that won the Western Athletic Conference championship, and then emerged as a crowd favorite as one of the key reserves during his sophomore season.

After his sophomore season, he opted to join the UH football team as a defensive lineman.
