Drew Buggs is entering NCAA transfer portal

Drew Buggs, the University of Hawai’i basketball program’s
all-time leader in assists, has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal,
according to verbalcommits.com.
Buggs, who just completed his junior season with the Rainbow Warriors, is on
track to graduate this May. He redshirted his first year at UH, and is in his
fourth year of classes on the Manoa campus.
As a graduate transfer, he would be eligible to play immediately at any NCAA
Division I school during the 2020-21 season.
Players who enter the NCAA transfer portal also have the
option of staying at their current school. In effect, Buggs can now explore his
options for next season and choose what is best for him, whether it be at Hawai’i
or elsewhere.
Buggs is a three-year starter for the Rainbow Warriors who recently earned
honorable mention on the All-Big West Conference team. As a junior this past
season, he averaged 9.4 points, 5.3 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. He was
the conference leader in assists for the second consecutive season.
Earlier this season, he became UH’s career leader in assists. He currently has
437 (the previous mark was 412 set by Troy Bowe). He has started 88 out of a
possible 91 games during his first three seasons at UH, including all 30 games this
past season.
Still, it was a trying season for Buggs. His mother, Mary, passed away after a
battle with cancer just three weeks before the season opener. He also played
the entire season with a nagging knee injury.
Probably wants to play at home, closer to family and friends. Nothing but love for this kid! Wishing him the best. Mahalo and Aloha, Drew!
….OR Challenge BIG TIME…IF SO, SHINE, DREW !
For Me, (self-ish) I hope we get one more year…
With a Few Better developed “Finishers’, including athletic newbies, Bernardo, Samuta & Hemsley and better coordination with Bigs…I would expect the double-digit assists and double-doubles to be more common for Drew here…maybe another “money” year…
He can probably adjust to Most Systems pretty quick though: doesn’t “need” to shoot, solid ball-handler & passer…makes his free-throws…. What a Competitor, What a WINNER!
Wherever you may go … we’re behind, YOU, Drew…MAHALO!
Much love Drew! Hope you stay but I’ll respect your decision. No matter
where you go you’ll always be a Rainbow Warrior!
Dawson Carper also wants to transfer
Thanks for the good times Drew. I’m sure that many other programs are licking their chops at the opportunity to “get” a PG like you. Oregon, UW, or Gonzaga?
How many more players will leave before 2 + 2 does not equal 4 and we figure out the real issue? Gerlufsen for Head coach! If we don’t make a move for him, other schools will. Not only are players leaving but so are the coaching staff.
