Up next: Warriors need to recover on the road

After a hurtful week at home last week, the University of Hawai’i basketball team will try to recover on the road this week.

The Rainbow Warriors will play Big West Conference games at UC Riverside on Thursday, then at Long Beach State on Saturday. Hawai’i is 14-10 overall and tied for fourth place in the conference at 5-5.

The Warriors are on a four-game losing streak, which includes home losses to Long Beach State and UC Irvine last week.

Hawai’i is only a half-game behind the two teams tied for second place – CSUN and UC Davis are both 6-5. UC Irvine, which hosts Long Beach State on Wednesday, is alone in first place at 9-2.

Both UC Riverside (4-7) and Long Beach State (4-6) are behind Hawai’i in the current standings.

Here are some basic scenarios for this week:

• If Hawai’i goes 2-0, it could climb as high as second place, and no worse than a tie for third place.

• If Hawai’i goes 1-1, it could still move into a tie for second place with several other contenders, but could also fall as low as fifth place.

• If Hawai’i goes 0-2, it could remain as high as fifth place, but could also drop as low as eighth place.
