Warriors overwhelm Mississippi Valley State, 76-51
Drew Buggs had 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting, six assists and four rebounds, and Zigmars Raimo and Brocke Stepteau added 12 points each to lead the University of Hawai’i to a convincing 76-51 victory over Mississippi Valley State on Sunday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Eddie Stansberry added 11 points, and Jack Purchase contributed seven points and 13 rebounds for the Warriors, who improved to 6-4. MVSU dropped to 2-11.
MVSU took a brief 4-3 in the opening minutes of the game, but Hawai’i took control shortly after. The Delta Devils got as close as 17-15 midway through the first half, but the Warriors responded with an 11-0 run to increase their lead to 28-15.
The Warriors eventually took a 39-20 lead at intermission, with Leland Green hitting a jumper from the wing as the horn sounded to end the first half.
Hawai’i then opened the second half with a 7-0 run to increase the lead to 46-20 and all but put the game away.
The Warriors played without starting guard Sheriff Drammeh. It was announced moments before the game that the 6-foot-3 senior was “suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules.”
Next on the schedule for Hawai’i is the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic, December 22, 23 and 25. The Warriors will face UNLV on the opening day, Saturday, December 22, at 12 noon.
More details, including video highlights and interviews, will be posted later.
MVS really at bottom of DI NCAA men’s basketball. To pay for program, keep going, they take these road games, some much tougher than SSC against Warriors. Real test for Bows. UNLV just got a win against UH nemesis BYU game ending winning shot. I checked out UNLV roster, they got some size, talent, and have not had a great season…yet…Hope Ganot can get his team to play 200 x better than against UH Hilo and MSV . Bows get that first round DHC win against the Runnin Rebels.. they would have shot at finally winning the DHC first time in history. IF the other teams really go into a spiral. Good field, Winnable for any of the 8 teams! Go Bows !
