Hawai’i will face Utah and UNLV in holiday tournament openers

The University of Hawai’i basketball team will play former Western Athletic Conference rivals Utah and UNLV as opening opponents in two separate holiday tournaments during the 2018-19 season.

The 2018 tournament brackets for the Wooden Legacy and Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic were announced on Wednesday by ESPN.

The Rainbow Warriors will play Utah in a first-round game of the Wooden Legacy on November 22 (Thanksgiving Day). The Runnin’ Utes finished 23-12 last year and advanced to the championship game of the NIT.

Hawai’i will play three games in three days (November 22, 23 and 24) at the Wooden Legacy, which will take place at a familiar site for the Warriors – Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.

The Warriors will then host UNLV on the opening day of the Diamond Head Classic, December 23 at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Runnin’ Rebels were 20-13 last season, and did not play in the postseason.

Hawai’i will play three games in four days (December 22, 23 and 25) in the Diamond Head Classic. It should be noted that the UH/UNLV game will start at 12 noon on December 22.

Each of Hawai’i’s six games in the two tournaments will be televised and/or streamed online on an ESPN station (ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN3).
