Warriors roll past UH-Hilo, 82-64

Mike Thomas scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Drew Buggs added 13 points and five boards tonight as Hawai’i rolled past visiting intrastate rival UH-Hilo, 82-64, in non conference men’s basketball action.

An appreciative crowd of about 3,300 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched Sheriff Drammeh add 12 points, four rebounds and three assists and Jack Purchase add 10 points, four boards and four assists as the Warriors improved to 6-2. The Vulcans fell to 3-5.

Both teams struggled from the field in the game’s first four minutes, with Drammen’s 3-pointer from the top of the key finally breaking a scoreless tie at the 15:41 mark. UH led 7-0 after Purchase’s layup two minutes later.

UH-Hilo eventually closed it to 11-9 on Trey Ingram’s jumper from the right wing midway through the first half, but the Warriors answered with a 17-2 run and maintained that comfortable spread the rest of the game.

The Warriors’ next game will be on December 17 (a Sunday), when they host Utah Valley at 5:00 p.m. at the Sheriff Center.

More details, including video highlights and interviews, will be posted later.
