Fans are invited to intrasquad scrimmage this Sunday
The first public appearance of the 2017-18 University of Hawai’i basketball team will take place this Sunday, October 22, during a Green & White intrasquad scrimmage at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Arena gates will open at noon, when the team will be going through practice drills. The scrimmage will start around 1 p.m.
Admission is free, and fans are invited to come early to watch the practice drills. Fans are also invited to stay after the scrimmage, as the players and coaches will be available for photos and autographs.
The scrimmage is expected to follow a “controlled” format, with players interchanging teams after each period to explore various lineup combinations.
Seven of the top eight players return from last season, including five players with starting experience: Sheriff Drammeh, Leland Green, Gibson Johnson, Jack Purchase and Brocke Stepteau. In addition, senior forward Mike Thomas – a starting forward on the 2016 NCAA Tournament team – is back after redshirting last season.
It is also the first chance for fans to see newcomers Samuta Avea, Justin Hemsley, Jaaron Stallworth, Brandon Thomas and Trevor LaCount.
SA’s Brian McInnis reporting that UH has received a verbal commitment from 6-foot-11 Aussie Owen Hulland. Nice pickup.
Does this make it a little more exciting for some of the posters who posted on the 10/08 topic ? I think it does.
Next year with the graduation of Gib and MT all of our bigs will be international players.
So, exciting some ?

Seems like we are not done with bigs, going after a 7 footer from the states. That would be a monster front line. Ganot has clearly opened the Aussie pipe, now let’s see how this plays out.
7′ Dawson Carper, Rampart High School, Colorado.

Carper commits to UH
Looks like Dawson Carper is a big who plays big.
Nice pick up.
Wow that is a huge front line. Looks like Ganot and staff have stepped up recruiting. Anyone know who was the point man on Carper? I figure Ganot was the point on the Aussie recruit.
Both Hulland and Colina are versatile. And of course Purchase will be showing leadership in versatile bigs catgory. And we’ll see if Ido has upped his game this year.
I hope this years team will make it to the dance !! They have a good chance !!
Go Bows !!
