Banquet Bonus: Jankovic makes a guest appearance
Stefan Jankovic had good reason not to attend the 2016 University of Hawai’i Basketball Awards Banquet – he was off-island, training for upcoming workouts with professional teams.
After signing a contract with the Miami Heat, and then playing the 2016-17 season in the NBA Development League, Jankovic made a guest appearance at the 2017 UH Basketball Awards Banquet last week at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
“I’ve just been tanning on the beach, the usual, same old Janks,” Jankovic said of spending some of his off-season time in Hawai’i.
Jankovic started the 2016-17 season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, then his rights were traded to the Erie BayHawks. He was injured for most of his time at Sioux Falls, but finished strong with Erie, averaging 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
Jankovic said he is currently a free agent, and is weighing his options for this summer.
Janks graduated last May along with Quincy and Dyrbe, good job !
None the worse for wear.
(I don’t know what that means.)
But Janks is looking good ! Good to have him back !
Hugh Hogland verbal commit to Portland. Colin Russell to UC Davis, Bergersen to BYU.

what’s going on ganot…are any players visiting this weekend?….maybe he’s more silent about his prospects as how we knew every player gib was going after
maybe Janks makes an NBA roster this year and gets some playing time. as we wait for news of recruits … …
Where’s our 7 footer(s) ?
A UH coach said they lost a couple, could be the ones to the Aggie and mormon schools ? Cows and the other 53 degree weather now.
They lost Russell to the defending BW champion, a head coach who played in the NBA and a school close to his hometown. No shame there. Don’t think he’s a game changer, but he’s a solid BW-type post and would have been an upgrade to the roster.
I think Bergesen basically “tripped” UH, but sometimes you take a chance in the hopes a recruit sees something he likes here.
I don’t know if Shaver is in play, but he hasn’t exactly been garnering high-level interest (Portland, Seattle, Northern Arizona, UIC).
Interesting that Bibbins is going to Utah, and Prince to … Detroit?
It keeps getting worse … Maxhuni opts for Long Beach State. UH batting 0-for-3. Next man up …
Kendall Smith to Oklahoma State and Bibbins to Utah are major upgrades for them. I hope the UH coaches have plan B and C ready since we are missing out on the first wave of visits. At this point we need to look at grad transfers to make a run at the tourney next year.
Very worrying recruiting cycle.
If you aint worried you aint a UH fan. Hoping for some gems somehow.
Plan b and c cant be good..sounds like f

Blessed to say I received an offer to the University of Hawaii #GoBows
6’9″, 245 and 3 stars with offers from Northridge and UCSB and some East Coast schools.
Johnson appears to be Ganot’s kind of recruit … high academics (has Ivy League offers) and nice size.
If you believe what you read via social media, Hawaii has shown interest in Justin Hemsley, 6-5 all-CIF forward who averaged 17 and 11. But is he interested in Hawaii?
Hogland signed with Portland. UH missed out on him, i think.

Sueing, 4 star, signed with Cal.
Always nice to see former players back on Oahu supporting former teammates. Best of luck, Janks!
Where are you guys getting your news on these recruits we’re losing?
Tavs; McInnis, HawaiiPrepWorld boys basketball, WSN Ohana, verbal commits twitter, etc.
I am surprised and a little disappointed with the lack of recruits but I can remember a number of last minute additions that became standouts. Noah Allen showed one really good player will get us through until we can get recruiting going again at a high level. Now all you have to do is find this guy.
6-4 SF Trey Anderson offered by UH, for 2018.

Trey highlight reel and no dunks?
Just recruiting mater dei in general is good

We improve to 3-0 on the weekend (6-1)! Trey Anderson unconscious from 3!
Last game tomorrow vs Canada Elite!
Thanks islandman. Saw it on scout. Doesn’t look like he is losing any mobility with the extra height. Let’s hope the staff are able to recruit him.
Might be a longshot but Kobe Paras just got his release from Creighton. Really good player and was highly touted out of high school. Would have to sit out a year but still would be a key piece if Ganot could pick him up. But like I said its a longshot.
Thanks for the info, islandman. Personally, though, hard to get excited about a 2018 offer when there are four unfilled scholarships for 2017. So, we wait …
They WILL Come Up with Something
OR Even THREE
Just Less Than Two Years Here
Coaches Deserve A Little Faith….
..(I think that’s Why we still blog/post)
Hope it’s ALL Enoughe
To Return to The Top Two or Three in Conference
THIS Season
Gib, Jack, MThomas is a nice 1-2-3 front-line;
Improved (Yes?!) Raimo & Flaisher
More Than Many Years… PLUS One or Two (?)
Leland, Drammeh, Stepteau & Buggs will bother a lot of teams
Plus One or Two… (?)
They are Gonna Make The Four Scholarships Plus Avea COUNT…
Count As Wiins…We Shall See
With Thomas and Buggs playing should give us a good rotation. Buggs will be key at the point to battle with Stepteau for the starting spot. Always good to find new talent. But if not there don’t waste scholarships. Because you never know the following year might be the banner year in which we hit gold in recruiting.
Stepteau should get one of the available scholarships.
Theres no point in saving scholarships
Offer it to one and done grad transfee players instead
Also really prefer UH coaches find a better pountguard than award a scholarship to stepteau.
Yes! According to McInnis, 6-9 Long Beach Poly post Myles Johnson (former teammate of Drew Buggs) is likely visiting Hawaii this weekend. Say, Drew, don’t let him leave without a commitment!
Myles Johnson supposed to be visiting this weekend.
If not Paras, how about Fletcher Tynen, a Fil-American who may have been offered by UH.
Tynen is Johnson’s Rockfish (AAU/club) teammate. Apparently, UH has offered him as Johnson retweeted the offer. But Tynen is a 2018 graduate. Highly doubt Paras would leave Creighton to come here, but … who knows?
Is Creighton supposed to be some kind of basketball power?? Lol
Creighton is a Big East powerhouse. Tied for third in the Big East this year. Ranked as high as #8 in the nation week 10 of the season.
But the big question, how would they do in the Big West ?
The point was, compared to Hawaii, Creighton is a stronger basketball program. Hawaii has made five NCAA Tournament appearances, Creighton has 20. They dominated the (mid-major) Missouri Valley Conference, particularly when Dana Altman (now the Oregon head coach) was there. They play in an 18,000-seat arena.
Anyway, ’nuff said. Back to UH recruiting … the clock is ticking.
Paras’ high school coach tweeted that UH has offered. I’d love to be proved wrong if Ganot can sign the former 4-star (Scout) recruit. Honolulu is a lot closer to the Philippines than Omaha!
” I’m looking at maybe the top engineering schools to go to that have good basketball programs.”

Former Gonzaga wing Bryan Alberts visiting Weber State and Hawaii. Canceled Wake Forest.
grad transfer with 2 years left to play.
Gonzaga was loaded at the 2-guard and wing, so Alberts’ playing time slowly diminished the past two seasons. Hawaii would seem to offer a ideal situation for Alberts as he possibly could slip into Noah Allen’s role. His PT surely would increase, and I’d think UH would gladly take a former Zag, particularly one who stared several games as a freshman.
Awfully quiet on the Myles Johnson front. Wonder if he even visited?
Alberts wants to play guard. He knows what his future position is after college at just 6’4 and a half.
Shooting guard is also a wing.
Guess we wait til tonight or tmrw to see any verbals
Nulla a parte il canto dei grilli.

Long Beach Poly big man Myles Johnson says he will decide this weekend between #HawaiiMBB and Rutgers. Visits Rutgers tomorrow.
————————————————————————————————————–
I think Rutgers has a top engineering department.
Interesting decision for Johnson … 2,500 miles east or 2,500 miles west? It’s gonna be tough to turn down a highly regarded engineering program and a basketball team that plays in the Big Ten. But who knows what beats in the heart of an 18-year-old?
Darn. It appears Kobe Paras has committed to CSUN. Theus is a good recruiter; his coaching acumen is still in question.
Middlebrooks Bball @middlbasketball 3h ago
CSUN it is! Kobe has verbally committed to CAl State Northridge @coachmiddlebrks @_kokoparas @chs_phantoms
Yup. It sure didn’t take Paras long to commit. He says he’s been talking to Theus on the phone quite a bit, and admittedly was influenced by Theus’ NBA cred and hopes to learn from him. It didn’t sound like he even visited the school. Oh, well … next … Alberts?
Guess that Paras kid never wants to play in the ncaa tournament lol
8 days left till signing period ends !!!!
If Ganot doesn’t land Alberts , things will be looking awfully bleak..

Former Gonzaga guard Bryan Alberts set to visit #HawaiiMBB tomorrow, per sources.
All our eggs are in Alberts basket. The only positive about not signing anyone is that he knows there’s a ton of minutes for him. Doesn’t look good with Johnson when we are up against a Big Ten school, but hopefully his personal connection with Buggs helps us win.
Simply speaking, Alberts is a must-sign. Cross your fingers … and toes.
