Warriors look to regain momentum on road

Rarely does a road trip offer a good opportunity to move up in the standings, but that is the prospect facing the University of Hawai’i basketball team this week.

The Warriors departed Honolulu on Tuesday afternoon, and will play Big West Conference games at UC Santa Barbara on Thursday, then at Cal Poly on Saturday.

UCSB and Cal Poly happen to be the two teams at the bottom of the conference standings, and the Warriors already beat both teams earlier this year in Honolulu.

Hawai’i is 12-12 overall and tied for fourth place in the Big West at 6-5. UCSB is 3-20 overall and in ninth (last) place in the conference at 1-10. The Gauchos are on an eight-game losing streak, which includes a 78-56 loss at Hawai’i on January 28.

Cal Poly is 7-17 overall and in eighth place at 2-8. The Warriors beat the Mustangs just last week, 74-65. Cal Poly will play a road game at CSUN on Wednesday before returning home to host Hawai’i on Saturday.

This week’s Hawai’i road games will not be televised, but streaming video will be available online at www.bigwest.tv. Both games are scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. (Hawai’i time).

More details will be reported later.
