Warriors shoot past Delaware State, 77-66
Jack Purchase tied a season-high with 21 points, including five3-pointers, and Sheriff Drammeh added 12 points tonight to help Hawai’i shoot past visiting Delaware State, 77-66, in non-conference men’s basketball action.
A spirited “White-Out” crowd of about 3,800 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched Leland Green add 11 points as the Warriors improved to 6-7 entering Big West Conference play next Thursday. The Hornets fell to 3-12.
The teams put on an impressive 3-point shooting exhibition, especially in the first half when UH connected on 9 of 20 attempts (45 percent) from beyond the arc and Delaware State drained 5 of 13 (38.5 percent).
Purchase broke a 19-19 tie with a driving layup with 10:31 remaining in the first half, igniting a 10-2 run capped by Drammeh’s 3-pointer from the right corner with 8:15 left.
The Hornets closed it to 32-27 on Devin Morgan’s 3-pointer with 5:12 remaining, but Ido Flaisher’s putback started the Warriors on a 9-0 run to end the half.
Hawai’i then began the second half with a 7-2 run and Delaware State did not get closer than the final score, when Devin Morgan swished a 25-footer just before the buzzer.
Morgan finished with a game-high 26 points.
