Non-traditional start times for opening games
Daylight Saving Time started this past weekend, and while Hawai’i clocks are not affected, University of Hawai’i basketball fans may want to make note of some unusual times this week.
The UH basketball team will open its 2016-17 season this week with three games in four nights, and the starting times for all three games are at non-traditional hours.
Here is a reminder about the upcoming dates and times:
Friday, November 11, 9:00 p.m. – the Warriors will host Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in the regular-season opener, which is also part of the Outrigger Rainbow Classic. Yes, that time is correct; the season-opener will start at 9 p.m.*
Sunday, November 13, 5:00 p.m. – the Warriors will host Texas State in a late-afternoon/early-evening game. Another Rainbow Classic game between Florida Atlantic and SIU-Edwardsville will start at 2:30 p.m., and fans with tickets to the UH game can come early at no extra charge to make it a doubleheader, if they choose.
Monday, November 14, 11:15 p.m. – the Warriors will host Florida Atlantic in the annual ESPN late-night game. It could also (hopefully for UH) serve as the championship game of the Rainbow Classic, depending on what happens in the previous games. For the absolute die-hard basketball fans who want to make it a doubleheader, a game between SIU-Edwardsville and Texas State will start at 6:00 p.m. earlier that evening.
Tickets for all three games are still available at www.hawaiiathletics.com.
* Note that ESPN’s Armed Forces Classic (featuring Arizona vs. Michigan State at 2:00 p.m., followed by Kansas vs. Indiana at 4:30 p.m.) will also be played at the Stan Sheriff Center on November 11, and is the reason why the UH season-opener is starting later than usual. The Armed Forces Classic is considered a separate event from the Rainbow Classic, and separate ticket purchases are required. Fans with tickets to both events on Friday, November 11, will have to exit the arena after the Kansas vs. Indiana game, and then re-enter with a new ticket for the Hawai’i vs. SIU-Edwardsville game.
Is Friday night game on TV? I can’t find info anywhere.
OCSPORTS per the UH website.
Thanks warriorhaw! 9:00 game time is little bit too late for some of us old farts.
