HONOLULU – Fans have the opportunity to enjoy great food, win auction items, and meet the newest members of the University of Hawai’i men’s basketball team at an event later this month. The UH Men’s Basketball Tipoff Event will be held on Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
“We’re really excited to put on this event and make it an annual tradition,” head coach Eran Ganot said. “It gives the public a great chance to meet our team up-close and personal, while also providing much-need support for our student athletes. This really should be a fun night for our fans, our staff, and all our players and we’re all looking forward to it.”
The fundraiser starts at 5:30 p.m. with drinks and a silent auction. There’ll be an array of auction items, including travel packages, sports memorabilia and gift cards. Dinner and a program will follow with players and members of the coaching staff participating in a Q&A with emcee Scott Robbs from OCSports.
Tables (seating 10) are available at $1,000. Individual tickets may also be purchased at $100 each. Contact Bobbie Omoto at bomoto@hawaii.edu or at 956-6501.
All proceeds from the evening will go to men’s basketball with an emphasis on the nutritional needs of the student-athletes. There will be additional opportunities for those in attendance to sponsor team meals throughout the season.
“We always stress to our players to take care of their bodies,” Ganot said. “Nutrition plays an incredibly important part in that and ultimately helps translate to success on the court. In today’s world of collegiate athletics, we need to stay ahead and the support from this event will help ensure that we do.”
Maybe just for me but 100 dollars is kind of expensive for something like this. Pass…unless they announce they serving steak and lobster for the dinner!
Pigskin Pigout tickets for football are $100 each. UH baseball fundraiser tickets were $100 each, $1,250 for table of 10. So basketball wants to keep up with those.
This is something that I would like to attend in the future if it’s going to be an annual event. Does anyone know if the basketball department puts out a calendar of events for the whole year? Maybe they should make a calendar and do a mail out. Or distribute to fans when they attend the games.
