Ganot wins national award for first-year coaches
In the long history of NCAA Division I basketball, fewer than a dozen coaches have won 28 or more games as a first-year head coach. The University of Hawai’i’s Eran Ganot is on that elite short list, and he was recognized for it with the Joe B. Hall Award on Monday.
The Joe B. Hall Award, which is presented by www.CollegeInsider.com, is for the top first-year coach in NCAA Division I. It was one of several awards presented on Monday in Houston, Texas – site of the NCAA Final Four.
Ganot led the Warriors to a 28-6 record, including the Big West Conference regular-season and Tournament championships, and the program’s first NCAA Tournament victory. The 28 victories is a school record, and is tied for ninth best in NCAA basketball history for first-year head coaches.
Ganot was selected for the Joe B. Hall Award over nine other finalists, including Little Rock’s Chris Beard, who recently was named the new head coach at UNLV. The award is named in honor of Hall, a former head coach at Kentucky.

For the record, the NCAA record for most wins by a first-year head coach is 34 by Bill Guthridge of North Carolina in the 1997-98 season.
Ganot earlier received the Red Auerbach College Coach of the Year Award, which recognizes the nation’s top Jewish head coach.
Ganot was a finalist for two other coaching awards from www.CollegeInsider.com. He was one of 21 finalists for the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award, which went to Wisconsin’s Greg Gard.
Ganot was also one of 21 finalists for the Hugh Durham Award, which went to Yale’s James Jones. That award recognizes the nation’s top head coach from a mid-major program.

JANKOVIC ALSO HONORED BY COLLEGEINSIDER.COM
Junior center/forward Stefan Jankovic was also recognized by www.CollegeInsider.com, as one of 31 players on the Lou Henson All-America Team, which is for players from mid-major programs.
Jankovic led the Warriors in scoring (15.6), rebounding (6.6) and field goal percentage (.543), and was earlier named the Big West Conference Player of the Year.
He announced last week that he will forgo his senior season of eligibility and declare for early entry into the 2016 NBA Draft.
Congratulations to the Coach Ganot, Janks, and the whole team !
Well deserved honors.
Janks was already good in high school.

Nice to be recognized for all the work he and his staff put into this historic season.
Go Bows! Hope best for all!!
Ganot take look at Janks younger brother.CaptainWhitlock of Kahaleheo.other local guys.
Ganot going into next season reminds me of when Larry Little first year.Gavin Smith. John Moore. George Ritter. Ed Torres.Wayne Crowe and Packy Ryan. Harf working guys.
Team1st why would u even take a look at Janks younger brother. Dude barely even played and barely even scored this year. Kid is a different ballplayer from Janks. None of the local kids unfortunately have D1 talent.
What a championship game. Glad Jay Wright got his first championship. Winning with integrity, so far. More than UNC had through the past years.
Villanova has a lot of upperclassmen and don’t see any of their players in the NBA mock drafts. 4 -out 1 -in offense, i think. First championship since 1985.
Out rebounded by UNC 23 to 33, 2 offensive rebounds to 14 for UNC. Only 6 assists to 10 turnovers. UNC had 16 assists to 11 TO’s.
Team1st,
I have to echo 808kid’s remark on Janks’ younger brother. He’s not D1 talent – kid struggles even at the high school level.
Team 1st has lost touch with reality and throws out random comments without any knowledge of the subject.
Team 1st have had too much to drink. There is no comparison then and now. Owies, Buggs, Green, and Purchase are Division I type players. George Ritter? Give me a break. Next thing you will tell us that Rogue Harris was a good player! Please! There are no Division I players locally this year, none.
UH has to lock him up
Magical season. Now Eran has to balance loss of scholies and who is coming back. Great run
And being Honest. His roster was loaded with great athletes. Fans we. ALL love recruiting aspect. Maybe coach Acket will bring in few more vetsatile 6’7″ Draymond Greem types
Golden St Warrior cemter about 6’7″ 225 who guards 5 spots
Terrific triple double guys
Get 3 of them. Warriors win Bigwest regular season title again
All about getting good recruits and doing good job developing them and coaching them up!! Good job Ganot!
not too much to drink, just the good irie vibes. keep on being positive.
Keep up the faith in UH MBB program.
If I had to chose one player i would like UH to lock up it’s Ryan Hobus of University Lab.
Hobus, a 6-foot-4 senior post, was a stable force in the paint in the Jr. Bows
He’s fundamentally sound displayed a high level of skill and touch around the basket that reminds you of Tim Duncan from the San Antonio Spurs. With the ability to post a defender up from either side of the block and he can also make you pay from mid range consistently.
Eran and staff will have good recruiting season upcoming, I bet all my pineapple trees on that. Take it to the bank.
Fans and Ganot looks like team preparing for ncca post season ban next
Ganot get creative 2 weeks into next summer play rxhibition tour to New Zealand and Australia.get pipeline in earnest. Or trip to serbia. Latvia and Lithunoa. Tons of talentband reward for team endured 2016-27 ban. Sounds good.team woll bond for next season and you can look for athletes ovetseas to sign!!
All1stTeam really? Ryan Hobus? The kid was a really good player in high school but the dude is 6-4. Theres no way a kid like him could play in the post at UH. The kid is only a couple inches taller than Buscher. Would not do well and also he played in D2. He didn’t have to go up against guys like 6-8 Hugh Hogland or 6-6 Brian Washington.
Rather than sending going to to a shooting clinic, look to your mother. Mentioned by a commentator that Kris Jenkins learned to shoot from his mom who wouldn’t let him shoot from outside until the 8th grade. She was a basketball coach though.
An article on Monday mentioned that both Villanova and UNC use two point guards, (like UH did this season). Also, said that the only other Villanova championship (in 1985) was an upset win over Georgetown led by Patrick Ewing.
Fred, a caller on a radio show, said to watch this player shoot. A 6-2 forward/center,she shoots set shots from outside and FT’s with no leg motion involved. Washington lost to Syracuse in the Women’s NCAA Tournament Semi-finals and she had only 3 pts in that game but 14 rebounds. Prior to that, she was scoring mostly a lot of points in the tournament and grabbing many rebounds. She shot 81.3 % on FT’s for the season.

Darn, these guys take long..Just my guess I cannot see UH getting post season ban. I bet 100000 coconuts and one kalua pig, that UH no post season ban….
JMO.. Man, Thomas, and Jovanovich will come back, and UH go back to NCAA tournament for 2 years in a row..
NCAA, rain, rain, go away, let the rainbow Warriors play another day!
I still get 100 haupia, 300 sweet potato, 1000 spam musubi that UH does not get post season ban..
I will always defend UH MBB and Ganot, very positive. Only positive irie vibes.
Hawaii finishes with a single vote in the coaches poll.

Team1st, Next year reminds you of Larry Little’s first year? So this reminds you of a time we couldnt even win 10 games the entire season, and nearly went winless the following season?
Wow, you really hate Ganot.
He’s doing it again…..
AV to announce his decision later this week, per Brian Mc.
Why does California have 40 votes and Hawaii only 1. Supposed to be the other way around.
Hey servante, didn’t you hear? It’s because Cal has two NBA lottery picks on their roster. That automatically makes them superior. LOL.
Wow another alias for the crazy guy. Dayton you need to stop this guy from using multiple screen names and just being negative. You already asked him to stop and he didn’t listen, now he’s creating multiple screen names and posting back to back to back. STOP THE MADNESS OR IN THIS CASE THE PUPULE GUY.
Pono, the weirdo has a mental disorder, compulsive , behavior , he cant stop making alias name after name , Kekela ward has a room for him. LOL
Looks more like a team 1st imposter.
