Roderick Bobbitt scored a game-high 23 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and four steals and Aaron Valdes added 12 points and five rebounds this afternoon to help Hawai’i pull away from Coastal Carolina, 74-63, in second-day action of the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic.

A crowd of 5,271 at the Stan Sheriff Center watched Quincy Smith add 11 points, five rebounds and two steals the Rainbow Warriors improve to 2-0 heading into Monday’s 11 p.m. “Late Night Blackout” tournament finale vs. Nevada (2-0). The game will be televised live nationally on ESPN2 as part of the network’s annual “Tip-Off Hoops Marathon.”

UH jumped out to leads of 10-2 and 20-5 in the first six minutes, but the Chanticeleers clawed back to eventually close it to 33-32 after Jaylen Shaw’s three-point play with 2:13 remaining in the first half. But Sai Tummala answered with a 3-pointer from the left corner to start the Rainbow Warriors on an 8-1 run which gave them a 41-33 lead entering the break.

Bobbitt then opened the second half with a layup to ignite a 15-3 surge which stretched the lead to 56-36 after Isaac Fleming squeezed through for a tough layup in traffic with 11:11 left in the game. Coastal Carolina could not get within single digits the rest of the way.

More details, including video highlights and interviews, will be posted later.

  1. The Bows are looking good. Bobbitt is a baller

  2. Agreed on Bobbitt, he is in the company of Henderson, AC, Reggie Carter, the whole deal,. and maybe a better jump set shooter.. I really really like him.. one of the best in the land.. HE IS the best player on UH , and perhaps POY type for BWC ..really..he keeps healthy and hot.. he will get recognition.. could he make the league? with great stats.. why not?

PONO..that bugaboo, FT shooting.. little shaky, let’s teams come back some.. I felt, UH should have finished , again stronger. beat these teams Montana St and Coastal by near 30 points, so Zach, Brocke, Niko , Jakob and Dyrbe could play some, since they work hard too in scout.
oh well a win is a win.
bet Eran, is saying same thing to team.. don’t have to shoot too many threes , work ball inside. get the great shot.. and again.. as in past years.. close out with great FT shooting.. only gets tougher. Nevada, then easier.. then tough, Texas Tech on the road, then easier,.. then DHC , well hope they are ready to finally win that championship !!
    Go
Bows. proud of you guys !!
    🙂

  3. Bobbit’s shooting has added yet another dimension to his already stellar game. I thought HE should have been on pre-season Big West team but whatever, he’s gonna prove himself with his weekly stats.

Offensive rebounding in the first six minutes or so was fantastic. They came out so strong defensively but seemed to really lose their legs with 7 minutes still remaining in the first half. Ganot doesn’t go very deep to his bench…maybe he can’t, but these are the games he should be.

Isaac seems so tentative, uncomfortable, though he has some great assists (would have had one more but Quincy missed the easy shot)!

I liked Ganot’s post game interview (radio)…but that guy Jeff Portnoy…I cannot stand listening to him, lol.

  4. servante :

great observation ! The seven samurai, Q, Rod, AV, MT, Janks, Stef, Isaac… have come to play.. stay healthy guys.. I like the half court sets.. and the timeout called plays…this year is the fine tuning of that seven samurai, the warriors from last great run…it is a joy to watch !
    🙂

  5. also, …I wish more were in house, turnstile attendance, this is a Fun group to watch. Cannot wait to see, even DVR game the battle against very physical Nevada team. That should be good indication of how good, and how much more team has to develop. Not too many bigs, however they play hard !

  6. Kelley0,good observation i want to see how he fills after tonight game before i’m sold on his postgame speech.
