Home game against UH-Hilo added to 2015-16 schedule

One more game has been added to the 2015-16 schedule for the University of Hawai’i basketball team.

The Warriors will host Hawai’i-Hilo on December 8 at the Stan Sheriff Center, according to an updated schedule on www.hawaiiathletics.com. There were previous reports of a game between the Warriors and Vulcans to be played on the Big Island, but logistics apparently could not be worked out.

Instead, the Warriors will now play a total of 29 regular-season games, including 20 home games in the Sheriff Center. This does not include Thursday’s exhibition game against Chaminade at the Sheriff Center.

The Warriors defeated the Vulcans, 89-71, in the Sheriff Center last season, with Aaron Valdes scoring 31 points and Roderick Bobbitt (12 points, 10 assists, 10 steals) recording just the second triple-double in UH basketball history.

No information was immediately available for season ticket holders who may have already received their ticket packages before the UH-Hilo game was added.

  1. Glad to hear fans will have another opportunity to see the team play at home. Even though the game is on a Tuesday night, it fills in what would otherwise be a 10-day gap with no men’s or women’s hoops being played at the SSC.

  2. Nice hawaii fans get to see UH MBB team at SSC 20 times

  5. I.F. was mentioned in the story, but here’s about the others.

“Some of the team’s younger guards have seen their roles increase as a result. Sophomore Niko Filipovich, freshman Sheriff Drammeh, redshirt freshman Brocke Stepteau and others have shouldered a greater load.

Bobbitt, meanwhile, was termed “day to day” and sidelined Monday with an unspecified ailment, meaning the younger crop got even more looks. Walk-on Dyrbe Enos, a fourth-year junior, played with the green team at times, as did Stepteau.

Ganot had high praise for Stepteau, a walk-on from Dallas.

“Brocke’s been pretty consistent,” Ganot said. “He’s actually been consistently solid in all the practices. He defends, he takes care of the ball and he takes good shots. He’s really improved as a shooter. That’s pretty valuable with what we have going on right now. Someone who can spread the floor and do things right.”
