The University of Hawai’i basketball team posed for photos and did interviews at the annual Media Day on Monday afternoon at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Warriors also revealed their new Under Armour jerseys.

“One of things we tell our team is to set our team goals and put them aside,” said head coach Eran Ganot. “We can’t get that overnight and we can’t do that today. We just have to maximize each day and have great practices and great film room sessions. It’s exciting for me as someone who’s been there before. This is my first year as head coach but I’m someone who loves this program and appreciates everything it’s about. We have a great staff and a great group of guys sacrificing and trying to do things right.”

It was also announced on Monday that the team will play a Green & White intrasquad scrimmage this Saturday, October 24, at 3 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center. The public is invited and admission is free.

  1. I guess all 14 active roster guys.. green light to score.. remember Riley/ Majerus Flex Motion Offense, ? was designed actually when run perfectly.. every spot, 1 through 5 could score.. however. not as uptempo, but hard to defend..
as was mentioned? HOW many preferred walkons? I think 5 out of the 14, so 9 scholie guys.. I think might be wrong.. so with grad of Q and Rod, and maybe who knows another early grad? maybe 5.. with Buggs early LOI… ?
No 255 pounders.. .. however that is okay , rebound as a team.. and have to BOX out..

  2. I think might be wrong.. so with grad of Q and Rod, and maybe who knows another early grad? maybe 5.. scholarships to offer for next year? with Buggs early LOI… ?

  3. NCAA hearings, restrictions and potential bans may be we need to rely on walkons to have depth Who knows how good these are or how long they will stay

  4. Does anyone know what happened with Chris Summers from Summer League and his goal to walk-on? He would’ve been a good get as a walk-on.

  5. You know… all we can do as UH MBB fans? just have to wait and see how plays out.. really feel for the guys and their families.. until .. all things finalized..question mark.. however , I believe the returnees and Zach, Brocke who Red shirted last year.. they know the deal.. just pedal to the metal..
ncaa thing.. I really don’t know final outcome.. however. .. looks like will impact.. how? have to wait and see.
I mean time.. I hope the guys just have fun.. see the basket, put the ball in the basket.. defense, see the man with ball.. stop him from putting ball in basket. final buzzer, win by 1 more point, I guess that is the approach..

  6. looks like Summers never made it into UH? maybe at another college? his physicality.. would have helped.. as to the Walkons, why so many.. ncaa thing , I would guess related.. plus Eran has to be very, careful who he offers to.. and the limits on scholarships.. He has to sign.. if they will come, a couple of 6’7″ rebound, defend, score inside types at least.. some athletes.. that would help.. if they can stretch floor better yet.. tougher.. stronger. hey, if it works with having a couple of preferred walkons contributing to Wins.. I am sure Eran will use them.. all positions.. whomever can help team, be better.. and for we fans.. we know the deal.. we just want wins !

  7. If it is like the Spurs offense, i posted a link to the Spurs.

” Our team is improved a lot from this summer,” said center Stefan Jovanovic, one of nine returning players who saw action last season under interim coach Benjy Taylor. “I think we have a better team than last year. We’ll definitely have something to show the fans.”
Jovanovic said fans should expect to see something “a lot different” than the style they might have been accustomed to last year. UH has mostly operated in a four-out, one-in scheme under Ganot.

“To be honest, I love it,” Jovanovic said. “It’s a lot of ball screens. … This year’s a lot of the style I used to watch on TV in Euroleague and all those big-time teams that play in Europe, and right now … it reminds me of the ball movement the Spurs do.” (SA, 10-20-15)

  8. heard there will be 5 0n 5 scrimmage of our team on sat afternoon (maybe 2pm) all invited

  9. Hey islandman:

    Much Mahalo for your link to showcase the Spur Offence;
It’s artistic basketball to the best for many NBA championships!

Would be the proper system to learn from for now or the future.

If we do our best – Rewards will be more going forward.

  10. For the benefit and interest of our MBB fans who haven’t checked the UH Athletics site:

‘Bows will host a Green & White scrimmage on Sunday Oct. 25 @3:00PM.

    Hoped it’s official !

  11. If info is from UH administration, could be right or wrong. Anybody know for sure if its Saturday or Sunday? Do we have to buy tickets or free? Kind of amazing but not surprising that nobody at UH puts out this kind of info.

  12. OMG, On UH Ath. about H-TV: Media Day now says Sat Oct 24 3PM and,
WI: Indicating the same date&time, who I trust more!

Am confused, please forget everything I’d said… Sorry!

Would someone confirm Sat 3PM is good to go SSC with?

  13. right before the individual warrior photos.. in the article it clearly states:

“It was also announced on Monday that the team will play a Green & White intrasquad scrimmage this Saturday, October 24, at 3 p.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center. The public is invited and admission is free.”

  14. LOL, leave it to UH Athletics to screw up a simple thing like the day and time of a scrimmage!

Many of us who follow for a long time know that this is common for UH, but gee whiz, we have a new coach here and lots of us die hard fans want to see what the team look like.

Do we know for sure now that it is Saturday or are some still saying Sunday?

  15. Do believe that the best OFFICIAL source for team plays publicly should be its schedule.

Just checked, the joker responsible for the update of this schedule shows no new addition, yet!

  16. What is Zane’s role with the team ? No volunteer basketball coaches allowed by NCAA, the last i checked.

  17. Grad assistant

  18. It’s now posted on the UH athletic web site: men’s scrimmage on Saturday at 3 p.m.; women’s scrimmage on Friday at 7 p.m. Free admission to both at Sheriff Center.

    Women already have their squads:
    Green Team
    Briana Harris
    Sarah Toeaina
    Ashleigh Karaitiana
    Lahni Salanoa
    Kalei Adolpho
    Leah Salanoa
    Brianna Kennedy

    White Team
    Olivia Crawford
    Marissa Wimbley
    Destiny King
    Megan Huff
    Connie Morris
    Andie Easley

  19. Is that the same as a Graduate Manager ?

  20. What is happening at UH AD dept? with the day and times of scrimmage? either sunday or Saturday, even one poster SA blog. said time is between either 5pm or 3pm?
To have the scrimmage at 3pm.. lessens the crowd.. however.. traditionally, if you had 1000 people at old Klum gym for the Green White scrimmage that was awesome.. the SSC.. if they get 1000 in for FREE would be awesome..

Still a little too much cloak and dagger, here they are, or they are not.. or this is that and that is this…must be fallout from Dallas..
just hope the guys have fun !
Janks, Quincy, hopefully Bobbitt and Valdes.. congrats Early. if you all get degrees in May 2016!

  21. It’s like Molokai sweet bread you need to knock at the back door

  22. yes that is funny.. kind of like UH MBB proceeding with a flat tire..want to speed up, get to destination, forget the road bumps, potholes, past few months and mileage, however that flat, keeps deflating the forward motion of mbb…
going to take awhile for majority of fans, and UH to get things going again..winning cures a lot.. winning the BWC regular and Tourney titles. would do the guys justice..

Check out that photo..14.. count em.. 14 staff members.. and 15 guys, 14 active and one RS transfer.. incredible… it is like one to one .. keeping eye on each guy.. should have ONE more staff member.. then the ratio would be REAL one to one..
I guess that is what UH has to do, compliance..
wonder, if guys have fun with all of that traffic..?

I think on another note.. if Quincy, Fleming, Rod , Sheriff can drive and score and ones.. without getting hurt.. as well as drive and kick to open shooters.. and maybe PUSH with Poise type of transistion.. Offensively. let’s see if Eran type of BB ..they can average around 80 or more points a game.. if they shoot well, they can.. however.. DEFENSE..and Rebounding on O and D.. really wins championships… plus getting the breaks. the ball bouncing their way, the calls.. and the last minute shots. Hey. .. I look at this team.. As A WHOLE NEW TEAM NEW IDENTITY… last year.. it was to feature, IF.. and a young frosh SR.. who have since gone, along with mad bomber from 3.. Jawato, and G Money if he were not hurt for a stretch… imagine.. how different team would look..
Nevels.. what a warrior.. he will have good and long carreer he stay healthy in Europe.. last year was G Money’s leadership and inspiration.. This year.. some guy or guys has to be .LEADER> they all cannot just be shooters.. close out and lead..to wins

  23. On the hawaiiathletics website, the roster lists one less Graduate Manager than before. Today it only lists the HC, three assistant coaches, one performance analyst and one graduate manager. Better than Duke or St. Mary’s who only list the HC, three assistant coaches and one Director of Basketball Operations. All these schools seem to have many other support staff members though.

However, UCLA lists the HC, three Assistant coaches, one Director of Scouting/ player development; a Director of Operations; a Director of Basketball Administration and a Men’s Basketball Athletic Performance Coach.
