Green & White Scrimmage set for Oct. 4

Huddle_Chase

The 2014-15 University of Hawai’i basketball team will make its first public appearance of the season during an intrasquad scrimmage at the Stan Sheriff Center on October 4.

The event will be the equivalent of past “opening nights” previously known as ‘Ohana Hoopfest. It will include a pre-game tailgate with the team outside the arena, a dunk contest, and an autograph session. The scrimmage will feature two 20-minute halves.

The event is scheduled to begin around 10 p.m., following a UH women’s volleyball match earlier that evening. The volleyball match will start at 7 p.m., and is expected to end around 9 p.m.

Admission is free.

Here are the official details from UH Athletics:

HONOLULU – Fans will get their first look at the 2014-15 University of Hawai’i men’s basketball squad when it holds its Green & White Scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Stan Sheriff Center. The event will follow the Rainbow Wahine volleyball match versus UC Irvine and will begin at approximately 10:00 p.m. Admission to the scrimmage is free.

After player introductions, the Rainbow Warriors will conduct an intra-squad scrimmage, which will include two 20-minutes halves. The team will also have a dunk contest at halftime of the scrimmage. At the conclusion of the evening, fans will get the chance to meet the players and coaches with an autograph session. UH students can also mingle with coaches and players at a tailgate outside the arena following the conclusion of the women’s volleyball match and prior the men’s basketball scrimmage.

The Rainbow Warriors conduct their first official practice in preparation for the season on Friday, Oct. 3. Eight returning letterwinners, three returning redshirts and five newcomers make up this year’s Rainbow Warrior squad, under the direction of fifth-year head coach Gib Arnold. The returnees are highlighted by junior forward Isaac Fotu, a first-team all-league selection and second-team all-district selection last year.

UH will host Hawaii Pacific on Thursday, Nov. 6 in an exhibition contest, before opening the 2014-15 regular season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 14 in the 50th Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic.

    Go Bows!

  4. Congratulations, UHMBB Fans…

You just about made it through the ʻDead Seasonʻ…
With the Great Thirst-Aide of WarriorInsider.com

NCAA should make an Official Second Season, like Summer League with Less Rules more Head-to-Head Challenges…

BUT The REAL Deal is Right ʻRound the Corner…

DUNK Contest Might Be Pretty Good,,,

    Aaron, Sammis, Jankovic,…

    GO ʻBOWS!

  5. Man, green/white just around the corner. Hope to see power dunks win this one. LeBron style. Should be good game since we pretty deep on the bench.

  6. warriorhaw , Eagle, those that can go..enjoy!!

We know, Quincy and Nevels as guards, not the tallest, have great hops can dunk. Believe, if Bobbitt were completely healthy, not yet, he can dunk, Fleming, he has length, he can dunk. so the 4 guards, can all dunk, pretty impressive. Maybe surprise, Enos, Bushcer, Stepteau and Filipovich get up there and two handed dunk, would be unreal. Who knows? I remember a guy that played for Leilehua HS, a military transfer, he was on summer league team with Bob Nash, who was with the KC Kings of the NBA, and was playing NCAA summer league, maybe 1979? The guy was 5’7″, and he could dunk, sort of like spud webb.

Jankovich, Jovanovich, they can flush, Reyes, power dunker, he wants to run with the guards and finish with the POWER slam. Thomas, he is such an athlete, come on MT, flush that ball, be calm, under control, we need you at that 3/4 spot to play well. Fotu, from 3 line or spin and flush, NWC, he length, long arms too, can dunk, Valdes, well he is Air Cuba, that rare air up there.

Basically, about 12 or the 16 on the roster all can dunk, should be fun, and maybe 14- out of the 16 can hit the 3 pointers, should be fun, warriorhaw, Eagle, and fans, through the doom and gloom, just got brighter, at least for MBB hoops fans, we made it, Hoops Hawaii Style Time!

  7. IN THE COURSE of the Season…

I Hope to SEE ALL the Scholarship Players Flush, Maybe even Multiple Times, When it Counts…

AND Some of the Walk-Ons, Too …IN A Game, Might Not Be Reasonable to Expect Sub-Six-Footers…

BUT i think — WE MIGHT Have Some LEGIT CROWD-PLEASERS…

In Aaron, Sammis, Janks, maybe Negus, Nevels, Fotu, MT, Bobbitt, Fleming, Jovanovic…

Maybe One, Two or More Per GAME…
Because SOME Of The PASSING Looked Improved…
    WE’LL SEE….

  8. Cant wait to see the boys play! Also, this is a great site to get to know the team…thanks to Dayton!
