Spearman wins new award at 2014 banquet
Departing senior Brandon Spearman won the inaugural Tip of the Spear Award at the 2014 University of Hawai’i Men’s Basketball Awards Banquet on Thursday night at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Spearman received the honor as the player who best exemplified five core values: humility (ha`aha`a), enthusiasm (ohohia), accountability (kuleana), relentlessness (ho`oikaika) and teamanship (leleike).
Hawai’i head coach Gib Arnold said he eschewed the traditional individual awards and opted to create the new Tip of the Spear Award this year.
Spearman was one of three seniors on the 2013-14 team that finished with a 20-11 record – the program’s first 20-win season since the 2003-04 team. He was considered the emotional leader of the team, and the team’s best perimeter defender.
Fellow departing seniors Davis Rozitis and Christian Standhardinger were also recognized at the banquet. Junior point guard Keith Shamburger, who will transfer to another program next season, was also present and recognized at the banquet.
There were no visiting recruits present at the banquet.
More details from the banquet, including video highlights and interviews, will be posted in the coming days.

Big congrats and big congrats to all three seniors !!
Agree – TEAM Versus Individual Awards…
JUST Count The Wins….
And Thank the Teammates, Coaches and Fans…
And Degrees…

Eagle:
the last WI recruiting update with Gib, he stated a couple of guys would be making their recruiting visit to Hawaii over next few weekends, Believe that starts today Friday May 2, and next week May 9, 2014..hopefully WI UH MBB nation will hear of another LOI commit or two!
Go Rainbow Warriors…after the “rain and clouds” passing over Manoa, then the Rainbow, and beautiful sunshine and future for MBB…that is what we are hoping for…great job Coach, and coach BA was there too, that UH MBB will just keep on track going upwards, and learning too!
These guards visiting must be something special because I would think we got the 1 and 2 positions covered with the signed and returning players. Perhaps they are combo players and can go 1, 2, or 3.
Only Frenchwood offered scholie..harville..stepteau are preferred walkons…
Gib still has to get the rim protecting big.. he probably will..
Right, I think that’s the final piece of the puzzle. But oftentimes the last one is the hardest to fill.
Bigs out there: Take a chance on Hawaii. We are an up and coming program that’s only going to get better. Without you we will still hit 20 wins next season. With you we can compete against anyone and win.
Congratulations
Spearman, the one , the only Ultimate Warrior 4Life!!
