Capacity crowd expected at Kaua’i High

The Kaua’i High School Gym is not exactly the Stan Sheriff Center, but a capacity crowd of 1,000 is expected tonight when the University of Hawai’i basketball team plays Chaminade.

“The island is very excited … the game is sold out,” Kaua’i High School athletic director Dino Pabre said. “We’re looking forward to a very exciting and entertaining college game that we as people on Kauai just get to witness on TV. To see a live college game, it’s worth every penny.”

The Warriors went through a late-night practice, following a girls high school game at the Kaua’i High Gym. Pabre said several hundred fans stayed to watch the Warriors practice.

“People that didn’t come to the girls game came to the (UH) practice after the game was over,” Pabre said. “The buzz was in the air. It was really exciting.”

Pabre said high school events usually draw around 300 to 400 fans at Kaua’i’s gym, so Saturday’s game will be a rare “sellout” game at the facility.

  1. Having never lived on the outer islands, I could not appreciate the buzz and excitement that seeing a D1 college game and practice up close and personal that Gib is providing our island brothers. Kudos to you Gib. My first reaction on these island games was that they should just play in the SSC. But it obviously means so much to the great people Kauai.

Dayton you are so lucky to travel with the team. Please show the faces in the crowd so we may experience with Kauai the excitement that UH BB brings.

    Go Rainbow Warriors!!!!!!

  2. Tht’as going to make things a lot easier from here on out.
