Complete 2011-12 schedule is revealed

The Hawaii basketball team already did its share of traveling this summer during its “Warriors to Asia” tour.

The Warriors will have to rely on that experience during the 2011-12 season, as at least 14 of their games will be either on the road or at neutral sites.

After several delays due to various opponents canceling trips to Hawaii at the last minute, the 2011-12 schedule was unveiled on Wednesday.

The Warriors are scheduled to play at least 31 games (including the WAC Tournament), with 17 at home in the Stan Sheriff Center. Marquee games include a neutral-site game against perennial power Gonzaga in Canada, a New Year’s Eve home game against UNLV, and of course, the three games in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic.

Hawaii will open the regular-season on Nov. 14 with a late-night home game against Cal State Northridge. The game is scheduled to start at 11 p.m., and will be televised nationally on ESPN as part of the network’s College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon.

Prior to that, the Warriors will play an exhibition game against Hawaii Pacific on Nov. 11 at the Sheriff Center.

Road/neutral site games include the Nov. 19 game against Gonzaga at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The Bulldogs should be ranked in most preseason Top 25 polls.

The Warriors will also play two non-conference games in California: Dec. 3 at Pepperdine and Dec. 6 at Pacific.

Also in December, the Warriors will travel to two different Neighbor Islands for neutral site games: Dec. 16 vs. Hawaii-Hilo at Kona, Hawaii, and Dec. 18 vs. North Carolina A&T at Wailuku, Maui.

The Warriors were supposed to open the season with the annual Rainbow Classic, but the four-team tournament was canceled because of logistical problems with the visiting teams. The Rainbow Classic is expected to return in the 2012-13 season.

  4. That’s a decent schedule considering the late cancelled games with others schools. Like the fact they play Gonzaga on the road, great exposure! Do you if we have a return game with Gonzaga as well? UNLV, AUBURN looks good too.

Im excited all ready!! Chee Hoo.

  5. No worries Joston and Shaq, a whole lot of us will be IN THE HOUSE to support you.

  6. Terence,

Since the Gonzaga game is technically at a neutral site, I don’t think it is a home-and-home series. Gonzaga will definitely be the “home” team in Vancouver though. They have a couple of Canadians on the roster.
