Warriors add forward from Germany
The Hawaii basketball team is in Asia right now, but it found a player from Europe.
Christian Standhardinger, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Germany, has signed to play for the Warriors. He is considered a transfer (he played at Nebraska last season), so will have to redshirt the 2011-12 season per NCAA transfer rules.
He can practice with the team this season, and then will be eligible to play in games during the 2012-13 season. He will be a junior during the 2012-13 season and will have two seasons of eligibility.
“He’s a player that was one of the best players coming out of Germany when he came over to Nebraska,” Hawaii head coach Gib Arnold said. “I actually (coached) against him his freshman year when I was at USC and was very impressed with him as a freshman.”
Standhardinger played in just six games for Nebraska last season before deciding to transfer. He averaged 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in those six games, while averaging just 17 minutes per game.
As a freshman at Nebraska, he averaged 8.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game, including a 25-point game against Iowa State.
“He’s a scoring, rebounding forward who has a great motor and can really go,” Arnold said. “We think he’s going to be a really nice addition to our team a year from now.”
In other recruiting news, Dillon Biggs is expected to enroll in a prep school during this fall semester. He could become eligible to enroll in classes at UH as early as January 2012.
The status of Gerry Blakes is still under review. Biggs and Blakes are both California high school products who signed to play for Hawaii. Arnold declined to comment on the status of both players.
Below is a video clip from a Nebraska game during Standhardinger’s sophomore season.
exciting news too bad he couldn’t play this season. hopefully biggs gets here in january and blakes before school starts
So does Dillon Biggs plan to go to Hawaii for the Spring Semester?
