Walking around Dongguan

The streets of downtown Dongguan, China, can be quite the scene.

Street vendors line the sidewalks, cars and buses are constantly honking their horns at pedestrians and other vehicles, and masses of people are walking to and fro.

The Hawaii basketball team experienced it earlier in the week.

“It’s pretty crazy,” junior forward Hauns Brereton said. “It’s definitely not like Hawaii.”

First, the Warriors had to do a currency exchange, swapping their American dollars for Chinese yuan.

Brereton, who speaks Mandarin Chinese, put his yuan to use right away, buying some fresh mango from a street vendor.

“It was only seven yuang (which equates to around one dollar) and she gave me a whole bag, so it was worth it,” Brereton said.
