Warriors make long trip home

Fortunately for the Hawaii basketball team, Monday is a holiday.

The Warriors could use the time to rest after spending all of Sunday traveling from Ruston, La., to Honolulu.

The Warriors checked out of Ruston early Sunday morning, but did not arrive in Honolulu until after 9 p.m. due to flight delays. Because of the delays, the team’s luggage did not arrive with them.

What the Warriors did bring home with them, however, was a rare road victory, and that helped ease some of the travel frustration.

“At least we won,” is how senior forward Bill Amis summed it up.

Hawaii defeated Louisiana Tech, 56-48, last Saturday for its first road victory since 2009. It ended a streak of 15 consecutive road losses, and gave the Warriors their first conference win this season.

Hawaii is now 10-8 overall – which matches the victory total of last season – and 1-5 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Amis once again filled the role of road correspondent for WarriorInsider.com, although he did not have as much time to provide video as he did on previous road trips.

That’s understandable since this was the first road trip that he was active to play (he traveled on the previous road trips but did not play due to a foot injury). It’s also forgivable since he provided 22 points and 12 rebounds in the victory over LaTech.

Here is his video from the last road trip:

  1. Let’s hope the rest do them good. They’re gonna need it this week. A good showing would be great and a victory would be even better. We need W’s, man.
